The German Federal Ministry of Justice recognised the potential of the project to unify European commercial law at an early stage
On 15 November 2025, Federal Minister of Justice Dr Stefanie Hubig presented the ‘Award for Good Legislation’ to Gerd Leutner, Urs Gruber and Niklas Uder, on behalf of the Initiative for a Unified European Commercial Law.
The prize recognised the work of the Association Henri Capitant, which, under the leadership of Philippe Dupichot and Matthias Lehmann, had drawn up a draft for a European legal act. The draft simplifies and codifies the entirety of European business law. The proposed regulation for a “28th regime” takes up some ideas from Association Capitants draft on corporate law. The Commission should target further areas such as credit security law, financial market law and intellectual property law. Only a uniform business law within the single market gives companies the opportunity to realise their full potential. This is necessary as innovative start-ups in particular must hold their own against US competition.
